Well finally done. I now know what to do when it is time to replace the next one lol. Now I know why the plumber quote seemed high. Fiddly irritating job.

I am feeling more confident to fix the toilet in the ensuite now. At the very least I have worked out how to get to a seal without breaking any pipes. That may do for the interim.
At least the unplanned leak motivated me to instal the new unit otherwise it may have just been added to the pile if unfinished projects in the shed.
And apart from the initial meltdown darling did well in remaining calm and allowing me to wait until this morning to carry out the necessary repairs. (Aided by the fact we have a backup I think).
At our last house I was made to pull the cistern apart at midnight to carry out repairs. Same for tap washers at different times. So waiting till this morning was significant.
