Not Coping

Re: Tw Not Coping

So sadness is round and squeezing life out of you. @Birdofparadise8

Yes, it does seem silly at first. Here's some info about the technique:

@Birdofparadise8 - the quote at the bottom is what kept me going when things were really tough.

Re: Tw Not Coping

Thank you @tyme

That is such a good quote. The waves come and go, but you just need to learn how to deal with them when they come.

Re: Tw Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8it can seem strange doing this exercise but I feel like it really helps you process what you are feeling on a deeper level. I don't get the same benefits from simply journalling as I do from poetry. I see so many parallels between this exercise and the poetry I write.

@tymeI think being perfect is unrealistic. I have done things and sometimes do things which I'm not supposed to do, but I am human. Humans were not created to be perfect, we make mistakes and learn.

Re: Tw Not Coping

Yeah I think with practice I might get better at it @creative_writer. Why do you get more of an effect with poetry then the journaling.

Re: Tw Not Coping

So true @creative_writer - being perfect IS unrealistic! But I had to learn this the hard way. For so long, I worked to attain to an unrealistic goal. MH taught me there's no such thing as perfect. Hence I am so grateful for my MH journey.

@Birdofparadise8 - Yes! This quote is super. I remember drawing waves on a piece of paper and writing the quote along the outline of the waves. I looked at this piece of paper every time things got hard - I learnt that it is not about getting rid of the waves, but learning to first ride them, then eventually surf them!

Re: Tw Not Coping

At this point @Birdofparadise8 @creative_writer , I think I am up to the beginning of surfing these waves. How about you?

Consider if you are at the point of being drowned by the waves, riding the waves, or surfing the waves. No need to answer. Just a point of reflection.

Re: Tw Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8 I feel like when I write poetry I can process my emotions on a deeper level than I would just by journaling. I am able to describe the pain using imagery and metaphors in my poem.

Re: Tw Not Coping

So true @creative_writer - poetry is about creative expression. Wow. Capturing emotions and feelings in metaphors would be incredible. I think about it, but I don't write it down. Unless of course, I'm sharing it on the forums.
