Share a cuppa?

Re: Share a cuppa?

Hi @Appleblossom, I've been looking at Kathie Kollwitz' work, and I've realised I can use the war theme to externalise a fair bit of my CPTSD. Some of my lino cuts and drawings are of soldiers in battle and weary troups returning from battle, and because of the defamation I often feel very embattled, and often quite bashed around, and I like putting that in art... it's interesting that when I talk with friends about how I feel they'll say "Don't talk to me about that!", but when I show it to them in artform the response "Gee that's good, I feel that character's pain.". They even think it's anti-war art, when I'm really saying the same things I say when I'm talking directly about the defamation and the effects it has on me. So it's not about what you say, it's about how people receive it; people are in one mindset when conversing, but when they're watching a play, or looking at a drawing or painting... They're in a different mindset. By the way, I'm anti-war, but it won't make any difference because we're a warring species by instinct, and when push comes to shove, most of us will become violent if our own survival depends on it...and lots of people will punch someone around verbally and/or physically simply to make themselves feel better.

@Abner

War has definitely been a part of human life so we cannot ignore it.  KKs work helped me externalise and heal some of my family history acknowledging pain on all sides and point to healing values.  My artist uncle did some war themed work which was very cathartic for him. The issues you have dealt with would be severe and complex.

Re: Share a cuppa?

You're right @Appleblossom, and that's a central reason why art that depicts and honours pain, suffering and the violence and brutality we animals are addicted to is important to me. I'm thinking my next lino cut might be about what I call psychological haemorrhaging.
