Very true @Healandlove  or it just turns into a show of toxic positivity will can be just as damaging.

 

I think it's about setting realistic expectations for ourselves. For example, we would never reframe to say "I won't speak until I'm perfect" because that's not realistic.

 

I hope I'm making sense.

Have a think about this. If a kid said to you, "I'm not good at walking. I'm never going to do it again until I'm perfect."

 

What could you say in response to support this child?

"I didn't fit in and I said the wrong things"

But

"People were kind enough to invite me and include me and spoke their truth in love when they shut down some topics they weren't comfortable with"

@tyme  I would respond to the child by asking “What makes you think you not good at walking? The good part of walking is in the doing. If you’re walking, you're doing good.”

Thought: "I cannot live with this pain."
Reframe: "You have felt exactly this pain thousands of times before, and you have always lived through it."

Thought: "No one will ever love me."
Reframe: "You are loved, even if you can't see it."

Thought: "I am never going to change."
Reframe: "You are working so hard, and you are changing little by little every day."

Thought: "Everything is my fault."
Reframe: "You have been told many times that everything is not your fault. You are not perfect, but you didn't choose this, and you are trying to change it."

Thought: "Everyone hates me."
Reframe: "It is hard for you to tolerate silence and it is hard for you to manage separation - it doesn't mean anyone hates you."

Thought: "I cannot live with this another minute."
Reframe: "Listen to the birds."

Thought: "No one will ever be with me."
Reframe: "Everyone is in this together."

It’s definitely something I need to work on. I think I can do it with the smaller thoughts but the really heavy ones, I don’t know how.
